The High Commissioner for Human Rights is primarily responsible for human rights activities under the direction and authority of the United Nations Secretary-General. Besides ensuring the enjoyment of civil, political, social, economic, and cultural rights, he has to enhance international cooperation for the promotion and protection of human rights.
