Qualifications for members of the Rajya Sabha

In order to be chosen as a member of the Rajya Sabha, a person:

  • Must be a citizen of India,
  • Must not be less than 30 years of age,
  • Must possess such additional qualifications as may be prescribed by law from time to: time. Under the Representation of People Act a person should ordinarily be a resident of the State or the Territory where from he is seeking election.

The Union Parliament consists of the President and two houses—The House of People commonly known as the Lok Sabha and the Council of States known as the Rajya Sabha.
